A major Defence Exhibition is being
held at Karachi from 17 to 20 Sep 2002 and we list below some of the
companies taking part. The main foreign countries in the list are
Russian, Chinese, French, Italian. American and Turkish. An Indian
news item had reported that the Russians had decided not to
supply Defence Equipment to Pakistan. We thus presume that the four
Russian companies listed below will be there for sight seeing, and
that certainly cannot be the case.
We had earlier highlighted media
reports that Pakistan was to get MI-17/17-1 helicopters and we look
forward to your feed back.
The French presence is
understandable as the DCN is helping to build the Agosta B
submarines at Karachi despite 11 of their engineers who were
killed by militants. the French support is still on. However we
understand that Pakistan will have a tough time commissioning the
second boat PNS SAAD sister to PNS Khalid which was launched
recently. .
We also learnt that all the
foreigners who have registered may not come for the show, as many
insurance companies are not providing cover. These are very
interesting times for Pakistan.
Here in Delhi the small IICDES
Tri-service Defence exhibition is on at the Hotel Ashok with meagre
attendance and we predict IDEAS 2002 in Karachi too will meet the
same fate.
Yet
there is so much money in Defence business that the Organisers will
survive. In our case the CII made a packet at the DEFEXPO 2002 and
now all eyes are on for Aero 2003 at Bangalore in Feb 2003.
